The Cape Fear Bonsai Society (CFBS), organized in 2001, is a group of men and women who meet monthly to study and practice the art of Bonsai. 

 

The club has an active program of training through workshops, guest speakers and a sharing of collective Bonsai expertise.  Membership is open to both the novice and the more experienced practitioner of Bonsai. 

 

You are invited to come on by, bring a tree to work on and get some dirt under your fingernails!

Feb 7, Tuesday, 7:00-9:00 PM, Meeting

     Advanced topic:  Pot up a raft-style Shimpaku forest, Basic topic:  Repotting.  Additional activity:  Tree-of-the-Month Drawing.

Mar 3, Saturday, Meeting and Workshop with Julian Adams (location TBC)

     9:00 AM-Noon -- Brief meeting followed by a demonstration by Julian Adams of Adams Bonsai in Lynchburg, VA. 

     Julian will style 2 rees, a cotoneaster and a black pine seedling, as bonsai specimens.  Julian will also discuss

     the topic of fertilizing bonsai.  The workshop is free and open to the public.

 

 

     1:30-4:30 PM -- Workshop with Julian Adams, Cotoneaster, CFBS members only (location TBC)

April 8, Saturday, Meeting and Workshop with Arthur Joura (Main Tent -- Azalea Festival, Downtown)

 

     9:00-Noon -- Brief meeting followed by a demonstration by Arthur Joura, Curator of the Bonsai Collection at

     The North Carolina Arboretum in Asheville.  Arthur will style an azalea as a bonsai specimen.  The workshop

     is free and open to the public.

 

     1:30-4:30 -- Workshop with Arthur Joura, Azalea,  CFBS members only (location TBC)

     Advanced topic:  IMP (Disease and pest control) (Speaker TBC) and Basic topic:  Prep a tree for show

     Advanced topic:  Planting a maple forest demonstration by Dorice Nelson and Patti Mason.  The forest will be

     raffled at the end of the demonstration.  Basic topic:  Watering and caring for bonsai in the summer heat in

     coastal Carolina.
